MR CENTRE FOR GEO AND ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLGIES
MALLA REDDY ENGINEERING COLLEGE (Autonomous)

Maisammaguda, Hyderabad – 500100

Significance of the Centre

After the 1972 Stockholm UN Conference on the Human Environment, United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) was created which oversees/coordinates the environmental issues of the world. In tune with this, many nation countries have formed their own environmental guidelines and regulations. The 42nd Amendment to the Indian Constitution Article 48(A) of the year 1976 states that “The State shall endeavor to protect and improve the environment and to safeguard the forest and wild life of the country”.

In the advent of inevitable climate change, natural resources and their environmental aspects have been placed on priority to deal with such issues, and many governmental and private agencies are involved in tackling these issues. The issues are large and need the urgent solutions, and the conventional government organizations alone cannot carry out such works. Therefore, there is a growing need for Institutional Consultancy Agencies to carry out such works on competitive basis and preparing the competitive technical/feasibility reports and to obtain Statutory Environmental Clearances.

Further, there is a growing need to develop the skilled man power in areas such as resources exploration and estimation, mine plan preparations, imparting cutting-edge knowledge on technologies such as remote sensing/geospatial technologies, DGPS and Drone surveys, analysis of landscape change studies, environmental pollution monitoring etc.

Against this background, MREC established an exclusive centre, namely “MR Centre for Geo and Environmental Technologies” to start new academic training programs and also consultancy services hand in hand to deal with geospatial and environmental technical aspects.

Vision

To impart quality training and knowledge in cutting-edge science and technological aspects.

Mission

  • To create new generation scientists familiarized in integrated multidisciplinary exploration techniques and cutting-edge technologies to take up the challenging tasks.
  • To train and develop the technical manpower in the fields of mineral exploration, ground water exploration, environmental impact assessments using geospatial technologies.
  • To meet the crucial challenges of climate change, water resources and natural hazards in the 21st century.

Academic Programs Initiated

The Centre proposes to conduct 1-year PG Diploma Courses and Short Term Training Programmes in Remote Sensing and Geospatial Technologies, Mine Plans Preparation, Environmental Impact Assessment and Environmental Reports Preparation at MREC. Short term Training Courses (30 – 45 days duration) in the above programmes will also be offered from early 2024.

One-year P.G. Diploma (Trimester) in Remote Sensing and Geospatial Technologies will also be offered from the academic year 2024.

The institute has well-trained, experienced faculty to offer the above said courses. Experts will also be drawn from reputed universities/institutes, and from the pool of retired professors, geologists, geophysicists, mining engineers, environmental and geospatial technologists.

Consultancy Services

Mineral investigations involve geological mapping, geophysical surveys, exploratory drilling, chemical analysis, mineral beneficiation studies etc. It is a multi-level study involving the geologists, geo-physicists, mining engineers, geo-chemists etc.

The scientific man power with vast experience in the field is available in plenty for such jobs in the form of retired scientists/officers. These retired scientists can contribute unequivocally their expertise for such investigations and capable of preparing standard technical reports, which can stand for scrutiny on any platform. With a view to join hands collectively and take up the task of mineral investigations, hydro geological studies etc., the Centre is closely associated with ‘Consortium of Geo Scientists’, a registered Society.

Considering the need for institutional consultancy services in the fields mentioned above, the Management of MREC has floated a separate company namely “MR Geo and Environmental Consultancy Private Ltd.,” which will work closely with ‘MR Centre for Geo and Environmental Technologies’. With a view to take up the tasks of mineral investigations, MREC prioritizes to enter in to an agreement with “Consortium of Geoscientists”, a body consisting of experienced geologists, geophysicists, geochemists, mining engineers etc., as a Joint Venture.
